Hey guys, I'm looking into getting an 81 b series locally as a project. I'm a subaru guy, but love mazdas as well.

I need a pickup, but also want to lower it an slap some on 16x9's or something. I just have one question before I buy this truck, what swaps are possible for a reasonable price (not interested in a rotary)? I'm most likely going to grab an engine from pick and pull, so what should I look for to get some decent power to replace the 90hp stock engine? I will be modifying the engine too, so looking for something that is capable of 200ish rwhp.

heres a pic of my subaru for u guys

KIA Sportage FE3 motor might be your best bet.

I guess I forgot to say I wanted to keep it stick shift.. I don't know how many astro vans have a clutch

does anyone know of any lists of possible swaps or anything? I guess I will search haha.

kia sportage swap sounds like it would be reasonably cheap, so the 95-97 sportage had a mazda engine before hyundai took over kia? or what years would I look for.

i third the idea of the 4.3 look for one out of a blazer, they came with 5 speeds you could tear out the whole drivetrain.

so, i bought an 84 b2000 today for $550
It's got 240,000 km on it, so roughly 150,000 miles for the Americans, lol.

here is the picture that the guy who I bought it from took for the ad, more will come soon when it is light out.

It desperately needs a starter, it starts eventually, but soon the starter will be completely effed, so that is the first thing I need to fix, and one headlight needs a bulb. Other than that it is a very clean old truck. It spent it's winters in arizona with the old owner, who migrated south for the winter, so there is very little rust.

Eventually it will under go an overhaul, including a drivetrain swap to be determined and lots of bodywork and paint.

I have no plans to airbag it or anything like that, I don't want the wheels tucking. I want them flush with low offset. looking at rota grid offroads or even type b or x's but obviously need to do some research on fitment...

Any good links on where to get parts for these things would be hugely appreciated.

Took some pics today.

I have a lot of work to do on this pile of shit, but today i played around a bit, tossed in some super tones to see how they'de look, cleaning up the grille a bit, giving it a fresh coat of paint along with the tie downs on the box.. passenger side mirror delete, going to look at some bike mirrors soon. Ordered a starter too.

there is a lot of body work to do on this thing if I decide to make it pretty, but not much rust under the box, or in the engine bay. We'll see what I find when it gets torn apart though.
