wide fenders

When widening the rear fender (98 c3500) do u nd to extend the fender bracing or do most ppl ditch it & just use the mounts on the bed side or what is the process bc I like the wide look plus gonna have to fit some 22.5s n them I heard 4 in is pretty standard or is it more

I would stick with anything originally there from the factory & just stretch it accordingly as well.
