What is the best way to smooth a Caddy grill?

I want to take off the chrome grill surround and smoth it over like it was not there.

Grill shell is urathane (plastic).

The best thing to do would be just to paint the chrome to match the grille shell (white). From what I can remember the chrome trim has tabs on the backside that have been melted into funny shapes to hold it in the shell.
