First off a big hello to everyone around!! i've been looking at this site for a few weeks to gather up all the info i need for my little project but i stil have a few unresolved questions!!
ok so my truck was originally a 2500 non-dually but was converted to it!! I think i have seen a post about there having a difference in the width of the front end of the truck?! and how about the difference in suspension parts since it is a 3/4 ton!?
I have started my stockfloor bd, doing a crossmember back brand new 3x4 1/4inch frame but was wondering to slam it on the doors can you reach that point with only stock floor or do you need to go a bit in the conventional bd way to get the doors to lick asphalt?!
Thanks a lot!
forgot to write the year!! its an 87!!
wow sounds liek a helluva undertaking not to many doored duallys i believe you might have to combine a traditional cut and lift bodydrop in there as well but i am a shitbox style guy(88-98) but one of our mighty sq body guys will chime in,,, but post up [pics i can't wait to see this one
yeah about the pics i'm still trying to figure out how to post them loll don't have much experience posting up pics in forums like this!! i think you need a host or somthing right??
I know i got a lot of work ahead of me but thats ok!! my first slammed truck was a 94 simple cab shortbox s-10 that i bagged and bdropped.. and i still found it to be too damn high!!!! so this time i'm doing right the first time hehe going as low as i possibly can!! I just can't wait to be fixing the bottom of my doors every few weeks cause they're gonna see their share of pavement!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Mine is bd to the doors. It was done to the rockers first traditional. After that I did the stock floor with 2x4 1/4 wall. If I remember right the frame under the cab is 9 inches tall stock. If thats right then the stock floor will give you 4 1/2 - 5 inches. I think you could get close but not all the way. I think you need around 7 1/2 to lay door. Keep in mind the u-bolts that bolt the lower control arms to the front cross member. If you drag through them you could be in for the ride of your life! (personal experience) I would cross member drop the front at least 1 inch to resolve this. That is something I would do different if I did another one. There is a guy that did one on this forum and posted some good pic's you should check them out. Mine was traditional bd first 4 1/2 so I just welded some one inch solid bar to the bottom of the frame when I did the stock floor to stop from tearing off lower control arms. If you have any questions just send me a p.m. I probably wont be on the site again for a few weeks other than maybe tomorrow. Going to be out of town.
I'm building an entire new floor. But I aint to far along yet.
where I'm at so far
i just looked at you post and man do i feel you for the rust!!! pretty much looks like my floor hehe!!!! i probably won't have to go as far as 3.5" with the conventionnal since i'll be getting a solid 4 inches with the stockfloor bd if not a little more!! you got a great project going on there, lot of work but shure is a lot of fun!!!
i'm wondering for a while now why there still people working on that rust when it takes only 2 days and bout 800 dollars of gas to get a perfectly good body/truck from arizona .
compare that to the bested knuckles and the hours and hours of cutting and welding .
the next time i'm in the states after this trip i'm planning a coast to coast roadtrip with some parts on a trailer behind me . planning on selling it at some meet in tennesee to make up some of the expences and basicly have a good time doing it .
ya cheak out my photo bucket i have lots of pics
^^^^^check out his cross member ^^^^^
Sorry skidrow. I didn't quote who did the work!!!
