What motor do you have now? If it's a 2.0 I would say a 4g63t. It will bolt to the tranny. If not I say a 350 if you are going to go through all that work. Go Big or Go Home...

I say go big or go home also.  But I'm partial to one side, I got a small block in a yota.

350 man its the same amount of work to get a 4.3 in there, a little tighter tho, i built my rad supposrt so i have no problems b4 i cut it up when it was lowered with the 350 i couldnt fit a normal water pump has to be short, exhaust is a pita bcuz of where the steering box is....fun as hell tho

oh ya its b/d 3" with a yota clip now gonna have to cut the hood big time before i had like 1/2 between the oil pan  and drag link with the wheels full cranked side to side, plus i had a torker intake really lo-pro and could JUSt close hood

I put a 4.3 vortec in my toyota and i wish i hadn't. Im not sure about the older 4.3's, but mine is a 98 and it is just too tall. There may be more stuff for it now, but when I swapped, i couldnt find any aftermarket parts that would shorten the profile. We all know there are tons of parts for the 350 so I am almost certain that you can build a shorter 350 than a 4.3. My opinion would be to go with the 350. Either way, you will have the same amount of trouble with headers conflicting with suspension and frame rails. have fun.

my thought is that everyone else would do a 350 so why not be different and go for the 4.3lt. I would go with a block from like a 89-93 they are pretty much a 350 with two less pistons. You can use all the brackets and serpentine setups that work on a 350 as well as the water pumps and all. I think a really clean nicely setup 4.3lt would be sweet. just my .02 going to be cool either way.
