02 frontier control arms. so if i had the uniball and cup i would have to drill the taper out of the spindle and use just a grade 8 bolt? thanks for the links.
Do these uniballs require any kind of lubrication?
I get mine through Ballistic Fab. As far as I know they dont need lubrication. I am running them on the dually with a 1" to 5/8 high misalignment spacer, and grade 8 5/8 bolt on the upper. The lower is still using stock joints. If you are running them on a stock spindle, you will need to drill the taper out and get a bushing welded into the spindle. I had the dually spindles drilled to 7/8. Then a 7/8 OD, 5/8 ID sleeve tigged in.
by all right they really only need to be a press fit, not welded. Just pointing that out for those who would be afraid to weld on their spindle. I got mine from hm-engineering, and typically they are not a joint which requires lubrication. The ones I have are sealed and self lubricating
They have Teflon liners, so there good to go...
If you don't understand the concept of the uniball itself, maybe you should let a proffesional handle it. Suspension geometry is not just tossing another form of a joint and thinking your done with the issue
i understand that suspension geometry is not a simple thing. i know how it works and i am familiar with the geometry of the suspension, i am just not familiar with bolting joints in to your spindle. i was wondering if they are as "safe" i guess is what i was trying to find out and if any one has had any problems with these as apposed to press in unijoints from blf. i assume that the bolt in have been used before blf or other companies started machining them to be vehicle specific.
to ease your mind, as long as they are setup correctly they are as strong if not stronger than a balljoint. They use them quite a bit in the off-road desert competition vehicles.
