Creating Backgrounds

 
So i see all these renderings and they have these backgrounds that are pretty sweet and similar in color to the vehicle.  I was wondering where you start to design these backgrounds.  Do you start with a plain white screen or a screen with no color?  Any infor would be appreciated.  Thanks.

i usually start with a white bg...add some color (gradients)...then blend in some textures. backgrounds can be anything really...its up to the artist or the client (if thats the case). play around with them and see what you can come up with.
