Lowering shackles for leaf springs

So how does lowering shackles work?  Are they actually longer than stock ones and allow the spring to flatten out more?  Any one know?

they are longer and they raise the mounting point up to achieve the drop they don't change the leaf any they wont flatten out any with out removing leafs out of the pack
