can i lengthen my link bars?

its a long story, but im running my bags about 1/3 of the way down my upper bars, so its not a huge leverage ratio. and i need to either lengthen my upper link bars an inch, or buy new ones and reweld the lower bag mounts and under bar gussets. So if its possible to lengthen them that would save me some dough and a lot of extra work. but if it is absolutely unsafe, i obviously won't do it. but if there is a way, how? oh, and they are 1 1/2" SD bars so they are pretty beefy.

Well I think you could add a piece of tube if you bevel the edges and grind them smooth after welding and then weld a sleeve over where you lenghtened it. But it may be cheaper and a lot less work to just buy new ones. Or maybe just move your tabs..
