Steering Gear Reverser?

Have you ever heard of this? I am trying to find out if I can use a rack and pinion from a car that is mounted on the firewall on my car that will be mounted on the front of the steer axle. A friend of mine told me there is a gear reverser that you can get to go inline with the steering column that when you turn the wheel left the turns the r&p right which makes your car go left. If this is too confusing or there is no such thing please delete this.

You could rig something up yourself with some simple gears from a bearing house.

I've figured out a way to make one.....but something that has been disigned for this would be nice to buy.

I haven't ever seen anything like you are talking about, but that doesn't mean anything. Check out Sweet Eng. they have lots of strange steering gadgets.

If these two gears were touching face to face one spins left and the other spins right. If this were in a box and could go inline of the steering shaft that would be perfect.

It should not mater on a rack and pinion cause there is no right turn left turn like in a steering gear

It does matter on a rack and pinion. Take the left wheel for example.. if a rack is mounted behind the suspension and the rack pushes to the left, the car pushes the left spindle and turns the car right. If it's mounted in front of the suspension and rack pushes left on left spindle, car would turn left.

Funny that you bring this up cuz I have been trying to find something just like this myself. Let me know if you find something.

No cars or trucks were ever made with a rack in front of the axle?
