Pros/Cons to a Parallel 4-Link

Got a 92 Isuzu Pup we are building for the wife. We aren't doing all that much to it, just gonna build it clean and low. We plan to bag it but want to retain the factory fuel tank in its current location. Someone said I could just run bags over axle and use a Parallel 4-Link Kit.

What is your views on this idea?

That sounds fine to me. I will of course always suggest a forward 4-link (see the 2-link controversy thread) and I don't prefer the bag over the axle, but it works and is simple. It's just a little stiffer (bouncy) than I like. A big bag will help, but unless you run a sleeve-bag the ride will only be tollerable.

Cool. Anything I need to watch for when setting it up? Does it need a panhard?

Yeah, I read that thread. I know the value of a 4 link vs. everything else and I am still surprised at the fact that some major shops still continue to push 2 links to the customer and use them regularly.

If you run a parallel 4-link you will need a pannard bar or some sort of lateral limiter. If you run a triangulated 4-link or wishbone 3-link you will not.

Do you have clearance between the frame and your wheel/ tire combo to run the bars on the outside? Most minis with large wheels can't run a link bar outside the frame, and your gas tank will be in the way to the inside- just something to watch out for before you start buying parts!

Thanks for the tip, I will check. She isn't going to be running a big wheel so we may have the room.

You could do a parell 3 link with a panhard bar as well if there isn't room between the frame and rim for the bars.
