What size heims should I use and what should I use on the pivot point? Im thinking a poly bushing would wear out quick so maybe a bearing of some kind. The bag will be mounted outside the frame rail and connected to the lower link on the inside of the frame rail through a cantilever arm and a dogbone with two heims. The bag will be solid mounted to the other end of the arm. This is on my 01 frontier. Thanks and I hope this makes sense....
On your center pivot, you can use a delrin bushing, a bronze bushing or a bearing, any way that you choose it shouldn't be a compliant (meaning flexable) joint. The heims can easily be 1/2" or even 7/16" parts as long as they are of a good quality.
on the topic i found this pic and what is the advantages of this i guess pros and cons.. it just seems like a lot of work and a lot more to go wrong (week points)?
No offense to the owner of this truck, but it is simply crazy for the sake of crazy. There is no reason to build something like this and I guarantee that it ends up being more of a hassle than it was worth.
maybe i'm missing something but what keeps that bag from flexing to the side?
The only reason Im doing this is because if I mounted the bag on my lower link it would hit the upper. This way I can have all the space I need for the bag outside the frame.
I'm not saying that all cantilever systems are unnecessary or going to be a problem, I was just commenting on the posted pic.
they have more pics of thatr truck on here Resolutions 2008 on the sow coverage above on the left
How about this Max....do you see any problems with this..Just curious as I helped a friend design it and would like to know if there are any design flaws in it.
Oh and the shocks are mounted under the bag laterally on the cantilever arm.
