Quick question for you guy's any help is appreciated. I have a 04 supercrew F-150 4x4. I am thinking of buying some 24's for it is a brake upgrade a must with 24's or is it for larger wheels?
ive got an 03 silverado on 24's an no brake upgrade i put em on at 50,000 miles an jus changed d stock brakes lik last week at 90,000
depends on the type of wheel, i know some forged wheels weight a little more but then chrome wheels are heavy as fck but it all depends
Yea they are chrome wheels but just a 6 spoke design not too heavy I don't guess. This is my tow pig though so I probably should have mentioned that. Pulling a trailer and on 24's I guess makes it an obvious upgrade needed?
IMO a few things go into it:
1) what size wheels did your truck come w/2) what size rotors did it come w/3) your driving style - do you jam on the brakes or coast to a stop4) trailer shouldn't matter too much. if you're towing a car trailer, it should have electric brakes to make up for the load.
my truck came w/ 14" rotors & stock 20" wheels & i think i drive my truck easy. going up to a 24" wheel has worked out fine for me. when i do need to replace brakes i will upgrade the pads & possibley slotted rotors.
one other thing, check the manufacturers load rating of the tires you intend to buy, remember the less sidewall the less load the handle.
Thanks for the tips everyone. Nice pic Adam that's a nice set up you have there. I am unfortunately rough on brakes it's a bad habit I have I guess. I am leaning towards not getting them now and just dumping more money into my mini. I would like to complete it this year or A.S.A.P. and start on my old wagon. Who know's though my F-150 is nice as is I just have a problem leaving any vehilcles alone. We'll see what happens and thanks agagin for everyone's input.
that pic is sick as hell!!!
O and ya i got 24's wit no brake upgrade, but i do plan on getting some!
little bigger isnt bad...
