Ok, so all of the sudden my 01 sierra 5.3L is starting a bit hard while the engine is cold.(Warm engine seems to fire right back up.) Usually one turn of the key and its up and running. Lately and all of the sudden, it takes two turns to get it going. I can hear the fuel pump prime, however instead of a steady humm, it sounds like its "spuddering" Just wondering if anyone has run across this before. The pump is new as of July or August last summer, so its not a year old yet. Could the relay that primes the pump be ready to take a crap? Dirty fuel filter? Ground wire getting corroded? Just looking for some insight.

Thanks.

Take the vacume line off of the fuel pressure regulator If you get fuel out of it the regulator is bad. Do not cheap out go buy a GM one. If that is good Did you put in a Gm or cheap pump. if Cheap you prob got a pump problem. I work For Gm in the parts department I see Both those things daily

Its not a GM pump. I was out of town about 3 hours from home, with no AAA and I had no choice at the time other than to take it to a Goodyear and have it done. Sucks but thats all I could do. I will look at the regulator first. Where is it located? I havent popped the hood or looked underneath the truck yet. I have an idea of what it looks like.

Fuel pump, just had mine changed about 2 weeks ago. The one on the trucks are shit and if you have a GM dealer change it, its gonna be about 1100.00 bucks, just to et you know

if you buy a new fuel pump dont get the gm brand. get an airtex, they come with another harness that you have to wire into the old harness. the factory plug on those pumps has a short and almost every new gm needs a new fuel pump quick. i sell them everyday. but gm wont admit they have a problem
