that only works with "elastic" goods, goods that have a lot of substitutes where you can move your money to a different product. Gas doesnt have many subsitutes except maybe walking/bicycling, so its called "inelastic" because supply and demand dont affect it.

In fact, if people started using less, the price would likely go UP, not down, because the scaling of production would cause a higher price at lower production.

Thanks for correcting me...didnt relize all of that. Just trying to put some things we going over in my Econ class

Here is a graph I made

My data source was the U.S. Energy Information Administration

If you thing gas prices are in line with inflation just check out the graph...

Just pull down your pants, grab your ankles, and take it like every other american! This is why i'll be hitting hardly any out of state shows. If it keeps up all my vehicles will just sit except for going to and from work and i'll find a "at home" hobbie. Gas is whats driving this recession. Just think, if gas were $1 a gallon right now people would be all over the place stimulating the economy with their money.

What about exxon for example who has had a 40 billion dollar profit? I have heard that their profit doesnt effect prices of gas, but why couldnt they cut their profit to steady the price a bit? I do agree that the gas prices are fueling(no pun intended) the recession. At the restaurant I work at we are dead. I called a old workplace for work and they arent hiring, they are considering laying people off. I tried to work at Home Depot which are also not hiring.

Why would they cut their profit when they know that they can charge whatever they want and consumers have to pay it. If you woke up and gas was $5 a gallon and you needed gas to get to work you'd still buy it. Their greedy, plain and simple. Thats why there is no such thing as middle class anymore, theres rich people and poor people. And guess what, the rich people are getting richer and the poor people are getting poorer.

Sounds good as an idea. But not exactly practically for many everyday errands.

We shouldn't not buy gas on a certain day what we should do is not buy from the largest gas companies (Exon, Conoco). Once we stop buying from them they will have to lower there prices to get back the consumers which will intern lower the prices of all the companies for competition.

like russ-d said in the other thread about gas prices....if u stop buying from the big companies and buy from the little companies all thats gonna happen is a role reversal...

Going on a strike for gas is the equivelent of the Gas company pulling their 40 foot poles out of our asses .0030 of an inch. Worthless! Just let it keep sliding in deeper and hold on!
