Ok im about ready to put the cab back on my mazda (stock floor body dropping) curious as to what methods other people use. I usually do relief cuts and bang them over. Im very anal about not messing up the paint so I am thinking about trying a big ass rubber mallet.input please n thanks.....

You're gonna mess up the paint down there just because of the bending, so theres not much you could do about that.

use folding tongs(the vise grips that look like they have 3 in wide metal strips welded to them) to start the fold, then fold the rest w/ a hammer. gona have work the whole thing or do releif cuts.

You are going to have to cut the supports behind the pinch weld at the front. About the first 4 inches is supported along the back side, tied into the body mount. You will have to cut that on the back side before it can be rolled. I just cut that part of the pinch off because it was a bitch to cut the bodymount braces.

After that, I start the bend with a pair of channel locks or a crescent wrench adjusted down to just a bit wider that the pinch thickness. I work it all the way down every inch or two, and make two passes, 3 if you can. Then I do the rest with a 3 lb hammer. You will only mess up the paint where the pinch meets the rocker, it will split right there.

Also you will find out really fast if there is any poorly applied bondo on the rockers. I did on the Mazda. Bent one area and the whole thing cracked.

drag them off. i have owned about 20 or so mazdas, just drag them level, then weld them back up. your gunna ruin tha paint. theres nothing you can do to stop that. ive cut, welded, hammmered, made new, you will ruin paint. drag them off youll be happier

dragging them off is way out of the question. I know I have to cut some of it, like seth said. Just have to put my balls in a bag and live with messed up paint were you cant see anyway

isnt that part of the truck the most prone to paint damage anyways. and if its that white one, just fuzz a little new paint in over the cracked stuff if youre worried about rust. or a small brush.
