WILL THIS BE STRONG ENOUGH?

im fixing my rear bag mounts. it is a bag on top bars forward four link setup. this is what im looking to do...

the red lines will be the new crossmembers for the bag mounts. i acquired some free 1x2 steel tubing, but heres the catch, its 1/16" wall...

thats why i thought the more crossmembers the better. basically, will this hold up, or not? i would obviously rather use 1/8" wall but this stuff was free and im a poor college student. but if its not safe, i will just man up and get the good stuff. also, its a 92 toyota pickup, not a four door dually if that matters...

I wouldnt trust it, that is a lot of pressure on it being used as a bag mount. I would try and find some thicker stuff and use that for something else.

If you run it flat I would be inclined to say no. Run it tall, then maybe.

yea i would run them all tall. the actual bag plate is 1/4". and my truck is pretty light. if i added more of them, would that better my chances, or is this just stupid?

I think adding more will just look, well, ugly. It would be best to do it right the first time.

i agree. if i get some 1/8" wall, could i use 1x1's? or could i ditch some of the tubing in the drawing, since they will be thicker? i only want to use as many as are needed, to keep it looking less cluttered, but i don't know how to determine how many are necessary...

I wouldn't use 1x1. Maybe 1.5" square at the smallest. If you build it out of the right tube you could eliminate the bars running parallel with the frame and just keep the perpendicular ones.

so 1/8" 1.5 square tubing would be enough to run just the perpendicular bars? also, i need to add gussets to some stuff, what is a good thickness for that in general?

I use 1/8" thick guusets.
