Ok, so a buddy gave me this engine-driven compressor and it's been sitting on the shelves in my shop for a while. I'm trying to get the last things I need to bag my Supercrew...I have 2)Viar 480's but thought about the edc I have.

Is there a way to test it without making brackets and mounting it? Is this one even worth a crap? How can I find out more about it? On one end it has the letters JD in the center. On the side it has some numbers "8709S11".

spin the clutch and if there is pressure coming out of the exit port chances are its fine. THey are very basic.

Hey, just my opinion. That is a sanden and I hear they dont work as well in a non sealed system like a york. Also I have a york bracket, pulley, and new serp belt for that supercrew. The setup is in the classifieds right now.

Hmm thats weird because I heard that Sanden was the best way to go. And if you have a 5.4 liter his bracket will not work. I tried it his way and it only will work on the 4.6 or maybe a 4.3 but I'm not sure. But if your truck is a 5.4 then you could do something like how I did mine.

I just realized that your truck is the 1997-2003 style. I don't think that either one of ours will work for you.

Hey man differing opinions but I had no luck with a sanden I had. No problems with my york. I was also under the impression that 4.6 and 5.4 shared the same belt routing path. They look the same and the sticker under the hood doesnt say different ways for either motor. Go which ever way you would like cause either work. Thanks.

No your probably right about the belt routing but the difference is where everything on the motor is in place. The way you have yours hooked up on the side of the motor wouldn't work on mine. I'm not trying to start trouble I was just making conversation. But I really did "hear" that sanden was a good compressor to use. You are probably right about it though since you have used one. I have merely heard that they were good.

My '02 Supercrew has the 5.4L Triton. Haven't really looked at the engine setup much in thinking of mounting possibilities until I know if this thing was worth even using. Like I said, I do have 2 Viar 480's, but would like to have the EDC. Plus it was free! lol So how do you even know that it is a Sanden? I know nothing about them.

blew up 4 sandens when the last one left me at "Sittin Pritti" 04 and i drove the 300 miles home on my bottle with 200psi in it. i decided to get a york. Not had one problem since.

a sanden is like a rotary, and a york is like a regular internal combustion engine, the york has an oil pan, the sanden has veins. my york will fill two six gal tanks to 200psi from 170 in nine seconds. i will never go back to electric.

No oiler needed for a york, since the sump is internal, and yes you need an oiler for a sanden. just my 2 cents. good luck man.

maybe someone can elaberate more on the differences.

What happens when you use the bracket I made is when looking at the motor there is an idler pulley on the right that gets removed and the belt now goes down under the power steering pulley and then up to the york. Then the idler I had machined causes the belt to cruise down under the upper radiator hose. All this uses a longer than stock belt and a different belt path. Trust me it works. It was on my truck daily for 2 months like this. If interested hit me up.
