what kind of wood is that on the notch cover? im looking to do something like that, but want to make sure the wood will hold up to rain, etc. truck looks good.

the wood is just untreated cedar. It is turning grey (what im going for) If you want something to hold up to the elements then you need to stain it for sure..

whats the best way to adjust the valves without running the engine with the valve covers off?

there no easy way chris because there hydralic lifters if it was solid then you can adjust them without it running, just put a red rag over the liftes and let it run thats how we do alot of ours

They make valve covers that are made just for that. Just the tops come off and not the sides so to speak.
