smooth welds or not?

looking for opinions from a design point of view. Im stock flooring my mazda and will be doing a bunch of tube work. I plan on smoothing over the welds on the tube bridgework to make it look like one continuous piece of steel.Should I smooth over the rest of the welds on the frame rails to blend or just leave them?

might as well smooth everything.

build a bunch of handrails before you start, you'll get good at metalfinishing tubing joints!! ive gotten good enough to where i can use a 40g flap disk and make it smooth enough for just primer and paint!

if you can lay down a pretty weld i'd say leave them.

The man speaks the truth as far as the flap disk, hit it with that and some putty if need be and highbuild primer the thing. I do bodywork all day and hate doing more at night but in my opinion Smoothed looks way better.

If your a good welder leave them. I like the look of welds personally, as long as there good welds! Heres an example. I recently had an experience with some tubing that someone welded together and smoothed out to much, basically grinding all the weld away. I was removing this gas tank that this tubing was holding up and before getting the tank out the tubing broke at the joint that was smoothed out and fell out of the truck. Now who knows if those brackets would have held for a mile, or a hundred, but I wouldn't want to find out being that it was a gas tank that could have fell out of the truck driving down the highway. Just some food for thought!
