First of all I'm new around here and no I do not own a dually (yet), but I have been looking into some mid 80s crew cab chevs. Anyways...

What welders do you guys use? I'm looking into getting one but I want to make sure it can handle both frame and body work on a dually. I am assuming that the frame thickness is more on a dually then a 1500 series.

I've been looking at the Miller 180

Would something like this be appropriate? If not any tips?

Thanks

I am partial to Miller welders and we have several at the shop. We prefer the Miller 251 digital.
The 180 will do what you need it to do but will not do very heavy plate welding. Its great for light duty frame work and should work for your application.

Probably way overkill for most home shop type work but when I took my HD down to the wrecker shop to get the bumper bracket welded on, even though it was a big gap to fill, homey took a Miller 250 to it and stitched it up like it was nothing. Literally 1 minute later and I had some welds on that bracket that looked like the rest of the truck would fall apart first...

I have a lincoln powermig 255, digital displays. I love it, at the time it was cheaper than a comparable miller so that is what I got. I think you would be happy with a lincoln, miller, or hobart. They are all good machines.
