Well most of u don't know what i did for a living. So i'll clue you in.
for the last 10 years ive been in the IT (computer) field. Due to lack of decent jobs, and my hate for office politics i have decided to switch jobs.

ive signed up for PA CDL truck school starting monday. ive always wanted to get my cdl and drive, for a while now, but it was never a good time till right now to switch.

So wish me luck honkeys. Though i don't think i'll need any help

Heh, I hear ya man, I did I.T. for 17 years, no shit. Got out in 2003. I started running wrecker for my old man including heavy wrecker (before I even got my CDL), then got back home to Houston and started up impound/repo on my own, then got my CDL and ran long haul for Ozark for a while until my personal truck (my '92 ext cab) got stolen out of their long term driver parking. Came back to Houston again and ran impound/repo for other peeps...now I'm doing the truck parts thing, but hung onto my CDL just in case.

Anyway good luck with it and hang in there, the first coupla months are the toughest, esp if you're doing long haul and anything in the northeast. Just one look at a road atlas will show you how nuts it is there compared to anywhere else in the country. GPS will be your best friend.

Ha. i live in the northeast, so i know what your talkin about! i do have a gps. since i'm going to the local tech school for class my options will be open for what i want to do. i was thinking local trips not over a day away. so i can keep close for the beginning.

you'd think the long term driver truck parking would be fenced in or have security or something!

Yeah it's kinda why I quit; it absolutely had to be an inside job. The lot is fenced, razor wired, security lights, card-key gate to get in, AND card-key gate to get out (not automatic), security cameras, and right across the street from the terminal office. My truck was parked on the 3rd row so they had to wait until two rows of cars were out of the way, then they cut the fucking fence down and dragged my truck out to take it somewhere else to break into it/disable the alarm. And nobody at a busy 24-7 freight terminal office saw this happen? Nobody said a damn thing, I had the rig parked at my place about 100 miles east of the terminal, drove my 'burb in and was going to swap to the truck for a quick trip to TX, and the damn thing was gone. Anyway enough whining about that..

Day trips are cool just think about what you like about the idea of driving, and what might bore you. I didn't want to do city/local work, that seems like the worst kind of hell you can have, constantly battling traffic day in and day out all day long. Regional is OK because you can probably be home more than long haul, but some regional guys bitch about getting bored driving the same route constantly. I liked long haul because I got to go all over the place. The main drawback to that of course is a lot of times you're going to unfamiliar places and don't know the tricks, shortcuts, gotchas, etc.
