Howz the progress on the duece??? Give us some updates...
*sigh*
I'm over it. I have 6k into it so far and I'm about done spending money on it. I'm just driving it to work these days. I still like it. It's got the beater thing going for it, I'm just not willing to dump another 10k into it. I'm saving my pennies for a 85-88 crew cab that doesn't need *quite* as much work.
As far as the future goes for the '77...we are going into escrow on a house, so she may donate her suspension to the "new" dually and be downgraded to a work truck. Then again, I may just sell her, or let her pasture out back for a while until I become motivated again...like when my Boy needs his first whip. Found a super-clean, red '87 on Alcoas the other day on CL for $1,900 but I just put all my $$$ down on the house. Figures.
The good thing is, it's actually pretty reliable now that most of the dirty work is done. I need to find a decent CraigsList TH400 for it, since the original unit is starting to slip, but other than that, she's a strong runner. The bad news is, if I decided to sell it, I'd be lucky to get a third of what I have into it.
Purchase price: $1,500
Past-due Registration: $400
Suspension: $1,000
Brake Rebuild: $600
Front End Rebuild: $400
New A/C System: $1,000
Misc Resto Parts: $400-$500
Misc. Maint. Stuff: $600
Having 6K into a truck that still looks like it's fresh outta the scrapyard: Priceless.
That's pretty much the long and short of it.
its ok we still like ya....
Dude, I learned really quickly that the last thing you wanna do is count it up and make the judgement "is it worth it". Only a lucky few actually get out what they got into it, hell in the duallys even half or what we got into it. We (or at least I) do this cause its fun, we create, and we express we want. I love completing each little goal on the road to the total objective goal. In my opinion...you have only platued.
Just revaluate your goals on it. Think about what drove you to buy it. Bring back your original plans. For god sakes man, dont stop. Nothing like takin a vehicle from ground the ground up. Take that 1900, and through it towards paint...or whatever your next step. A new 8 track possibly.
Maybe I should ask what did you want to do with it? Where did you originally want to take it?
Not a lecture just some gentle support.
I have been hammering away on this little Vega, wanting to sell it. I took my time and did everything right. Have way more in it than what its worth. Just wanted it gone. Now I am back in full swing. All I can think about is taking it back to my original 70s shek plans. I am dreaming of rolling the tunnel ram, and a bigger cam too. I dont wanna stop. but it took forcing myself on it to reactivate my dreams and make me fall back in love with the little cus. ( its faught me the whole fnn way)
Im guessing you get that new ride, and find a bunch of little stuff that would need redone anyway. Come on Camp!! You can do it! and it will be worth it to you when you finish...(never monetarily though...lol)
I dunno...I drive it every day. I think I'd like to have something a little newer and nicer. I don't mind putting a few grand into it, but at the rate I'm going, the '77 is going to break me.
I bought it cause it was cheap and I had the $$$. In hindsight, I should have waited.
There's a guy here at work that has a clean '87 2wd Sub in his backyard that he wants to get rid of. I think I may be able to pick it up for around 8 bills. I was seriously thinking about stripping it and swapping the frontend, interior, motor and trans, doors (power everything), etc into the '77.
I came real close, but the only problem is, I don't have anything to drive to work in the meantime. That would be a 6 month job at the least.
how bout a power wheel? your daughters bike with the lil pink tassles?? that might suit ya? JKbro i hear ya on taking down a truck and being car less
Selling it to satisfy my debt on the Sub with the Old Man.
