Worth IT?

Hows it going, I have been wanting to bag a square body dually for quite some time, and as of recent been looking for the right truck to work with. A week or so ago i came up on a dually for sale in the town i live in, an 82 crew cab gmc with no bed, a 6,2 that knocks and blows smoke(which could be minor or major), some minor rust on the rocker panels, some rusted out spots on and around the floor boards, haggered interior, only 4 tires, over all the cab, door, fenders, hood, glass, ect... is straight. The odo says 95k but it only goes up to 100k, so this truck could have x amount of miles on it. The owner doesnt know. The truck has had the piss worked out of it. im guessing 300k. i figure with finding a new bed, new floor boards(which are dirt cheap), and either a 6.5 or 350 drop in, would it be worth it, because ive seen complete square body duallys go for around 2grand. They wont budge a cent off of 600 bucks. i just thought since i have been checking out this site lately that i would asks some of yalls opinions. Thanks

It depends on how much you plan on doing. If you just want a nice bagged truck, it is probably not worth it. If you want to do a full show with custom interior, engine and what not it might be. It also depends on how handy you are, and availability of parts in your area. If you got to have a bed shipped from bfe then you could have $1200 in a bed.

I would say pass, I bought mine running good with new tires for $700, the body is pretty rough but I have most the parts to fix it, but it is a ton more work then if I would have started with a nicer truck, and I kind of wish I would have.

That sounds like a lot of work, by the time you get a bed, panles and all extras plus a good engine you'll be in it with 2 holes shot in your feet. You'd be better off buying a clean stocker, Ive seen em go for a 1000.00 or less w no rust and good engines. The old duallies still hold their value, people get rid of them because they have no use for them anymore and that is why you can find them cheap, I have seen really clean ones sell for 6500 or more and these are stock un molested sqbdys. You should be patient and wait out for the "RIGHT" truck, it does not sound worth it to me. Just my 2c

BTW I got a friend out here in Vegas outskirts who has an 86 for 300 bucks, its a desert dweller and has been sitting for 20 yrs, it was bought new in Vegas, guy died and wife parked it. She said it ran when she parked it, it's a bit sun faded but no dings, no dents, it'll probably run with a minor tune-up and some tires. Ill check into it for ya...
