im considering making my own air tank. most like use like 6" or so thick wall tubing. then plate the ends, and put in port bungs. any tips to give me before i do this? thanks.
use 1/4 thick plate and tubing so you can really get a good bead without air gaps and pinholes in it. chamfer the edges a bit. then put a shrader and plug the rest and test it underwater or with soapy water be4 you finish or mount it.
you can just use sch 40 pipe, but make sure you use 1/4" plate on the ends since they will be flat....
there is some big ass like 8" tubing at work im gonna try and schroung up. like 5 feet long. planning on making it as big as possible. 12gal would be killer.
if the ID is 8" and the length is 5' the calculation comes out to be 13.05 gallons. its about the size of a 200 bottle.
here is the formula if you want it...
V= (pi)(radius squared)(height)= answer in Cu.In.
1 Cu.In. = .004329 gallons.
dont forget to run a gusset along then ends to keep the ends from bowing out.
Gusset it how, like tabs wrapin from tube to plate?
if you use 1/4" plate or larger it wont bow out......
TIG WELD SOME BUNGS ON A PEPSI CAN AND YOU WILL BE OK....HAHAHAHAHAHAHA
