Rock chips!!!

Hello all,

I know we all love our fatties, but one thing I hate is the rock chips on the front side of the rear fenders I am sure I am not alone!!! I will be having my fenders repainted over the winter because of hundreds of knicks and chips. My question is how does everyone deal with this problem? I know that 3M or someone makes a clear film that can be stuck on!!! Has anybody had experience with a product like this??

Maybe I am just being anal let me know what you think

Seems like the ones I've seen with the clear film, the film yellows with age/sun exposure. Maybe the new stuff is better about not doing it?

I'm not a painter so I'm kind of talking out of my ass here but I think using some flex agent in the paint on the fenders would help to not let the paint be so brittle. They use it on plastic bumpers, and I've also heard of people using it on steel bumpers that are painted, since you get a lot of rock chips on those, too.

The best way to protect them is exactly what you said the clear film. A company called LLumar which also makes window tint has the best kind it is guaranteed not to yellow or change color, and you can buy it in a flat sheet make a paper template of your fender shape you want to protect and cutout the film and apply it. It is very simple to apply. I have it on all of my stuff cars, trucks, bike ect. One time at the mall I had a lady back out of a space and across the front of my Dodge (no jokes) and instaed of scratching the paint it just messed up the film so I cut a new piece and replaced it no paint work needed. That stuff is worth the money.
