So anyways, since I bought my semi truck last year I quit my night job that I worked at for 8yrs to stay home w/ my son, dispatch my truck, and basically be semi-retired and do stuff around the house and spend time w/ my son. At the time, being 31yrs old, I thought that would be sooo cool to basically dispatch my truck run errands, do paper work and hang out w/ my 3yr old son w/o being wore out from working graveyard all night and playing w/ him in the daytime while mom was at work. Well, its been a year in november and I am getting very bored w/ it and the worst part is after all this time I finally got a driver that is responsible, shows up on time, takes care of the truck, lets me know ahead of time if he cant be there on a specific day instead of just not showing up. Besides being bored, w/ winter slowly coming in, work getting slower, our economy in the crapper.....I have been testing last week for my CDL. And going to start driving my truck myself and bring my son along w/ me.(I have drove trucks, I just never went and got the endorsement) I have a 15ml round trip run all day hauling sand passing my house and my sons school all day long. And while working I can drop my son off at school (he goes for a little over 2hrs mon-fri for help w/ speech) Plus w/ him going w/ me to the shop all the time...he loves being around all the trucks and equipment. No real point to this thread...just ranting.

i think that would be cool taking your son along my dad was a truck driver and i always wanted to go with him but i couldnt because of his company rules.

but good luck with the testing my neighbor had to do that stuff a few years back and he said it took it like 7 times or something like that.

I passed the tests already. Will see how it works out. Money side of it, I know I will like it. That would be anywhere from 400 to 750 dollars a week I wont have to pay a driver.

It was cool until our fuel prices sky rocketed and cut into my profit. And now fuel is down, but winter is coming and that slows work down. It wont be that big a deal, like I said its only a 15mile haul back and forth all day. And I could be done for the day right about the time I pick him back up from school. So, not enough work to work me to death, but enough to keep me from going stir crazy....
