Ok, other than the obvious transmission, linkages, gear selector/panels, what's involved in converting to an automatic transmission, specifically on a 97 dakota 2.5l. i'm getting bored driving a 5 speed, especially since i've been doing a lot of stop and go and stuck in traffic crap. but basically what i'm wondering, am i gonna swap any pcms, transmission control modules, clusters or anything?

You will need the computer from a 2.5 auto. I am sure the wiring will be somewhere in the truck, but you might have to splice in. or get the harness from the auto truck.

Otherwise, it will be an easy swap.

so instead of going to a junkyard to strip individual parts from a truck, i should basically just look for a cheap donor parts truck.

you'll most likely need the complete steering column (and the shifter and cable with the shifting linkage on the end), gauge cluster, transmission, transmission mount, driveshaft, flexplate, torque converter, all hardware, youll need to see if your harness has the plug for it (its huge), the dipstick/filler tube, computer, and rear end gears..... im sure ive missed alot, but thats most of it.....
