ok i have a 95 blazer with 4.3 v6 in it, here lies the problems,
1. has rough idle, and sputters black smoke when idoling, if when i am driving and step onit every now and then it blos god awful amount of black smoke and starts to idle a lil better, but soon goes back to rough idle, and sometimes it doesnt want to die, i have chnaged the plugs wires aqnd cap and rotor, also chnaged the o2 sensor, i think i have it narrowed down to the egr valve or map sensor
2. this my fiance blazer that she had with her EX who claims to be a mechanic( hahahahaha), anys he has pulled the thermostat out of it due to it over heated, when i am driving around WITHOUT the AC running it runs really really cool, but on a average sumer day of driving it wants to run well above 210 even while highway driving it will hover at 210 or 225, turn ac off and the temp will come back down to around 160 or so,
3. also the heater core is out of the truck also and the hoses were bypassed to each other, could this cause the overheating problem, he stated that when the thermostat was in it would also want to run hot,
i have checked all the fluids and everything is nice and full, SO WHAST COULD BE MY PROBLEMS with the truck, i am trying to convince her that it would be better to geta new car at the first of the year, and she just wants to fix everything, last trip we took with it running like this i got 20 mpg consitent, adn she said when it was brand new it got clsoe to 25, need help this thing is sucking down fuel left and right, thank god prices are coming down... intown driving with ac running i am better off drving my dually .. LOL... any suggestioins will help...

sound like the blazer is running way rich it might be the lambdah sensor giving of wrong signals too , replacing that and reset the computer (take off batterycable and leave it without power for 15/20 minutes or so) reconnect then start the engine and let idle for a little but so the computer can recalibrate itself
another thing you could look for is if the injectors are still clean enough to do there job propperly
the radiator of the ac is sitting in front of the engineradiator the heat it pulls out of the interiour with the ac on is getting released outside the car through this radiator because the engineradiator is right behind it it gets hotter air than normal and so lets the engine run hotter too
mounting an electric fan should cool the engine a bit further
replace the thermostat back in there , the cooling fluid needs the resistance comming from it to effectively circulate through the engine or radiator , strangely enough that will keep the temperature more constant too .
the heatercore doesnt need to be connected to keep the engine cool but will help to cool the engine in case of emergency when youre stuck in traffic and theres no driving wind to cool the engine enough (open all windows set heater fully open and at full blast and hope you dont pass out from heatstroke )that can make the differece between immitating old faithfull or just running hot .
you can replace the heatercore and hook it back up but if its under the dash its a pretty big job to get to it

first you should scan for codes secondly put the thermostate back in and check to see why its running hot could be plugged radiator now as far as why its dumping fuel in the cylinders 1 your egr valve might of given up but more likely your cts(coolant temp sensor) it will think your engine is running hot and add fuel to cool it it works almost like a choke
but thats me guessing with out scanning codes or playing with stuff

if its got the tbi injection check the coolant temp sensor like pig said, those are known to go bad. if you just take the thermostat out it wont build enough water pressure to cool properly, it would have to have a washer or something to limit flow so the pump can actually build pressure, just put the thermostat back in imo.

sounds like to me that something is broken and you need to fix it.

hahaha J, thats obvisous.. lmao..
i am going to put the stat back in but i want to know fiqure th eopther out, the core also needs to go back so she can have heat this winter( long list of to do's) she has told me that her dad has replaced the temp sensor several times anbd that it has been thru several thermostats, i have cleaned the injectors out, right after i chnaged plugs and wires it ran like a champ and had some spunky power but slowly went back down hill again.. her dad said that they have had the EGR replaced 2 times already on it, as far as scanning codes,l i have taken it to advanced and auto zone for them to hook the scanner to and both times it says it can read the codes, like it is not connecting to the computer.. i am about ready to get rid of this thing. simple mechanics but trying to do it with out breaking my ass doing and dont want to have to go tru trail and error till i find it. do you guys know of any other to get codes on the scanner with out hooking to the port under the dash

with some cars you can get the codes out of the check enginelight in the dash by bridging 2 pins on the diagnostic socket or turning the contact off and on a certain way .
and count the amount of blinks on the enginelight .
i've heared theres a way to turn certan options off as whell with a verry advanced type of OBII device like the knocksensor when it causes the engine to go intoo savemode for no reason .
then theres the option of taking a "snapshot" of the computer while youre driving it to see if it registrates sumtin then

on the obd1 you can bridge the two connectors, i could be wrong but that ended in 96? so it should still be obd1, ill try and find the link that explains how to do it.
