My 400 has been slipping a bit and I was wondering what it would take to rebuild it. I have heard that it's not that complicated; just get a good manual and take your time.

Then I heard an add on the radio saying our local pick 'n pull is having a sale: all trannys-$65

So I got to thinking maybe I'd run out and snag a 400 and rebuild it myself. I'm going to pull my motor one of these weekends because my rear main is leaking, so I thought I could rebuild the spare trans on my bench and swap it with my o.e. trans when I get around to fixing the seal.

Any thoughts? Think this is something I could handle?

Or, I could strap it to a pallet and ship it to you so you could do it for me.
