redrilling ford courier rearend to 5 lug question

i have a pretty simple question i think. im going to have my axles redrilled to 5 lug but i want to get some of the work out of the way before i send them off.
the part of the axle that makes a wheel hub centric (im assumeing the raised part) in this pic of an axle
needs to be shaved down flat with the rear drum, can this be done with a grinder or does it need to done with a mill so it doesnt get hot? this is the pic i found on www.nolimitscustoms.com website.
thats what it looks like they did to me. am i correct? if so ill be a grinding fool this weekend. thanks for the help!!!!!
