My first time trying to wire a stereo up. its in a 2003 Chevy silverado and I'm installing a new Alpine cd player. From the diagram, I have installed speakers correctly. And I believe I have hooked up power and ground up correctly but still no power. I have DVOM the power and I do have power and I have run a test light to see if my ground was good and the light lit up. So I'm guessing ground is good. But when I turn cd on, i still get nothing. There is a couple wires i have questions about though. It is from the wiring harness. It is a red wire that says it is suspose to go to ignition and then an orange wire that says it's an "illumination" light. DO i need to hook these up and to what if I do. Also, from the truck wiring harness there is a smaller orange cable. I looked it up on alldatapro and it says its an data connection wire. what the hell is this? Thanks
Yes you need to hook up the red ignition wire. The orange wire would just dim your deck when you dim the dash lights.
truck prolly does not have an ignition on wire behind the radio it was all data bus. what I used to do as an installer was run my own ignition from the main wiring harness from the ignition. It will be a pink wire, should be a 10 guage and will be grouped with other similar wires under the steering column. Just run you a wire from there fused of course and hook it to the red wire on the radio should do the trick, and you will be rockin'....
I just got back from Best Buy to pick up a GM wiring harness. I show him the harness that I cut from the truck and he said all I have to do is connect that small orange wire, which he said was the ignition on, to the red ignition wire coming from cd player. So I get back to truck and connect the wires and still nothing. I had messed around with the ground wire so I will check that out in morning and see if that worked.
