ok so my trucks finally driving again and all but im in need of a new battery. wondering what would be my best bet. its for my hardbody, im runnin 2 380s and shit airwise. i wanna daily it this summer again but im at college now so it only gets messed with every few weekends maybe. whats the best battery recomendation?
optima yellow top, i just got one for my setup (2) 480's lights dont dim or anything.
bad thing about an optima, even though it takes a lot to drain one, if it ever goes dead its a bitch to recharge, I had one go dead because i had a wire grounding out that I didn't know about. Jumped the truck, drove it to 5 hours to Indy and the damn thing would not start. Bought an Duralast Gold and no more problems.
yea i would probley hafta say optima my friend has a yellow top and a red top and hes never had a problem with either of them and he is running 4 kicker comps 12'' a compressor and auxillary fan and 2 amps so thats what i would go with optima
i've had my share of problems with optima yellow tops. after draining them down, they have a tendency to have a cell go bad and never be able to reach a full charge. ended up with a stack of dead yellow tops sitting outside my garage. i'm not the only person to have this problem. i know others who have been through this too, but there are gonna be some die hard supporters that will say they haven't had a problem with one, which they probably haven't. if you want to spend the extra $$$ i'd do a red top, otherwise look for a battery with the most cold cranking amps (cca). something with 600-700+ cca would do you good.
for the guys who have yellow tops going dead and cant recharge well.. you probably neglected to get a 'starter/deep cell' yellow top. There are 2 yellow tops. Deep cell and the starter/deep cell.. you need the starter deep cell or they will die on you very soon driving your truck. if you get the right one, you wont have any problems with them.
red tops are nice. i'll be running a red top in my nisssan.
ive got a redtop on the truck --- and ive got a warranty on it if it goes bad or cant hold a charge for any reason i can simply trade it in for a new one -- its a good battery -- but might as well go for the one with more cranking amps depending on what u use it for -- i believe my redtop is like 940ca - dont quote me on the though !!!
i use red tops. simply cuz I like em and I get em free.
My yellow top went dead and I couldn't get it to charge back up. Took it to Advance Auto Parts and they put it on their charger overnight and the next day all better just like a brand new battery.
my dad works for international trucks. i get discounts on big truck batteries with a ton of CC amps. i'd just get a big ass truck battery for less than the optima name brand.
