I did one a few years back, we got the factory idler pulley to replace the A/C, got another idler pulley to replace the automatic belt tensioner. Then cut the bracket for the alternator so I could drop the alt. down a fair bit so it cleared the hood, made a pivot for the bottom and an adjustment bracket for the top to adjust belt tension. Then when to a performance shop and pickep up an open air cleaner housing that drops the air cleaner down around the throttle body.
That allowed us to keep the stock hood with a 3" body drop to lay pinch seam.
Also do you have any pics of the truck you mentioned above that you cut the alternator down on?

i was talking about the air cleaner thing Clint had mentioned that allows it to slide down over the throttle body to help with hood clearence. I wasnt talking about the column shifter.
And to be honest with you, i didnt understand fully what you meant about the wasjer behind the cotter pin.
mine was bodydropped 3 3/4 inchs and all i had to do for the auto shifter was shorten it up like 3 or 4 inchs right by the transmission. i could shift through all my gears no problem. and i didn't know how to get the stock hood to fit so i ended up cutting a hole. i've seen one person change their pully set up from a one belt running everything to 3 different belts running everything.
ya i had to cut out the angled part and welded in a straight piece instead so it wouldnt smack my frame
I dont have a pic of what it looks like finished
