I found a dually that I may be interested in. It has the 6.0 liter diesel engine in it. Has anyone had any problems with this motor as I have heard that there were some issues with them. The truck I was looking at only had around 50k miles and about 4 yrs old. Its just barely broken in.
If anyone here has this engine, have you had any problems with it?
What kind of fuel mileage are you getting?
my grandfather has the 6.0 in his 03 ford crewcab f350 pulls and runs good, just do not chip it or put a k&n filter on it it will go to running like shit so he had to pull it all off and it went back to running just fine all work performed at dealership also.. he did have a recall on the westgate for the turbo buit that was fixed and it runs good...
i have a 99 with the 7.3. i got the 7.3 cause of all the nightmares i read about the 6.0. i dont want to tell you what to do but i would look for a dually with a 7.3 if you want a ford. i love my dually. i need to sell it but i love it to much, they are great trucks. i dont really look at miles on them cause if the past owner did the reg matanince than its good for more miles then you will put on it. i get on average 21mpg in the spring/summer/fall and around 18mpg in the winter. i have a edge evolution programmer intake and 4" exhaust, it runs great and is pretty fast. good luck man
I would have rather had the 7.3 but saw this 6.0 that was already customized. I've read a few problems about the 6.0 engine and tranny when pulling heavy loads and hear a lot of people say the older 7.3 was much better with fewer if any problems. I know that I would not be pulling heavy trailers often was why I was asking if any people had any concerns.
I have the 7.3 in mine and they dont make as much power as the 6.0 if you are going to chip it and do other mods to it. The main problem with the 6.0 is when you start to put on a bunch of power adders you need to do head studs because you will blow the headgaskets. the 6.0 is a great motor and will pull like hell, you just need to make sure if you chip it you do head studs because if you drive it hard or pull alot with it chiped you will blow headgaskets.
My dad has one in his 06 f250 and it has a superchips tuner on it. We pull my truck on a trailer with it and it pulls good. I have heard the thing about the head studs before and thats appearently one of the biggest problems when you start tho make extra power out of them. That and we had a minor issue with oil leaking around the injectors on one of the company truck
The truck that I saw said it had "edge2 comp., arp head studs" and a hi flow exhaust. Not sure if the arp studs are any good or not, but thats what he has listed.
ARP studs are good, thats what most race motors are put together with and thats what we used for most mf my motor
ARP studs are the way to go, if the truck has them in it you are good to beat the hell out of it.
