Steel Step Shavers..?

I have a 97 S-10 that I am putting a Cali Combo on and also Grant steel step shavers. how do I weld in the step shavers while maintaining the body line. It seems that the only place to weld the shavers on is right in the middle of the body line, or do I weld from the back somehow??? let me know what youguys with stepside beds did. Thanks in advance.

So, um well if nobody knows, could you give me an idea of where to find out how to do this.
