Exhaust system and back pressure

On my nissan 720 z24 engine i took off the muffler and it seemed to lose alot of power was this from no back pressure? Anyways, The way i wanna run my exhaust there is little to no room for a muffler and it would be better if i could run straight pipes but i dont wanna lose that much Hp like i did before is there anyway where i can have no muffler but keep back pressure like a smaller exhaust pipe to restrict it or something. Any ideas? thanks

dude i have the same problem im going to run a cut out for highway drivin and put back on my muffler for city drivin cause in town with no muffler gas mileage sucks ass and for your issue run a good glass pack for a muffler of find a thin one
