dime guage cluster prob

i bought a 1998 s-10 from a crack head it runs fine. but the gauge cluster is not working properly . The backlight comes on and the oil pressure and voltage meter are the only gauges that work. the odometer,speedometer ,gas , and temp gauges do not work. Is it a common prob for gauge clusters to go out in s10's?any help would be appreciated.

i have heard there is a big problem in the 98 and newer my 96 never has had the problem

my gas gauge dosnt work on my 99 the sending unit is bad they all do it even the full size trucks i just use the trip odmeter and know how far i can go because the new sending unit with pump is like 400 dollars from the stealership
