Courtney wasn't the only one who pushed for this. In the 80s, cars weren't really "allowed" in mini-truck, and van clubs. Then, cars began to be allowed for every so many trucks in the club as a "mascot". This is how cars became a part of mini-truckin' and truck shows in general. Today, custom cars are just accepted as a norm, not an aberration from the norm.
