whats everyone suggest for removing heavy oil residue so the engine is paintable? I have the engine on the stand and am just getting it cleaned and want to paint it before it goes in.
brake cleaner, then pressure wash it.
I never would have thought of doing that. Thanks for the response.
I scraped my motor with a putty knife. Then I soaked it in oven cleaner (works better than engine dgreaser). Then I pressure washed it. After that I went to town spraying it with brakleen, and scrubbing it with a wire brush, steel wool, an scotch brite pads. I got the thing spotless.
yea dont use degreaser, its pretty much diesal fuel.

go to a detail supply shop and pick up a bottle of acid. spray it on and let it sit for about 1-2 min and pressure wash it off. it will be like now. thats what i use at the dealership i work at. works great on rims too
what do you use to cover all the ports?
just stuff it with rags??
Seal those off real good ,use Duct tape, you don't want any water in there!! Pul the plugs & spray a light oil in to keep the rings from sicking to the walls!!
