I have an older Chevy 10 bolt rear end from a past project. I was wondering if it would be a decent one to shorten and put in my Mazda since the 302 would be a little big for the stock rear. And it would be the same price to shorten this one as it would be to get a new one.

no no no.
get a toyota rear end.
it is stronger than the junk chevy rear ends. yota rear is cheaper for parts (gear change, lockers bearings)
the yota rear will not have to be shortened, has ford lexus toyota bolt pattern 5 on 4 1/2
and ther yota rear will take the power of the v8.

Thanks for the quick response. Its gonna take me a little while up here to actually find a Toy rear end, but if it'll be worth it. So the early 80's would be the best one, correct? Because I don't want to go too narrow and need huge wheels in the back.
