Got me a Craftsman gasless wirefeed welder for christmas. What temp setting is best for body, and which is best for frame?
it depends what wire size your welder uses, are u using .030,.035.045.053??
how many volts does your welder use, 110,220.
are u using gas or is it flux core
there should be a suggested settings sheet on the inside of the weld where the wire goes and it will tell u everthing u need to know
to tell ya the truth man i wouldnt do any sheetmetal or any frame work with it, not to knock on your new welder but its probably going to burn too hot for sheetmetal even with the thin flux wire and with the heavy wire on the hottest setting it wont penetrate enough @ 80 amps to make a structural weld. My sheetmetal welder is 135 amps and the one i have for doing heavy stuff is a hobart handler 180.
if this is your welder then i would keep it in the box for a few months and save some more cash
and get THIS because it will burn hot enough to penetrate heavy steel (.250 and up), plus the beads are typically cleaner with mig (using shielding gas), at that price is amazing because i paid over 600 for mine less then a year ago. so i would save up the 300 or get the sears credit card and knock 15% off of that and put the credit to it and get the better welder.
^^^ i second that. flux wire sucks. their main purpose is for the local farmer that wants to build a fence for his cattle -not build a frame or do any shaving. not sayin it cant be done, WE ALL have used them at one time, but do your self a favor and learn from OUR mistakes and save the few extra bucks and get rid of that flux core welder
i mean the 511 for that hobart is dirty cheap.
i got my licoln 135plus for sheetmetal and my lincoln powermig 215 for frame...
ive never had a problem with either welder, i have a hobart 180 now
