^^^I'm running 3/8 dump valaves and opted to slow them down. I honestly don't think there is a difference in speed between the two valve sizes any ways. He whould have to to 1/4 to make a diff, and he is looking for a cheep way out.

get some of these, its an adjustable speed control.
I thought about those, but the quality just doesn't look that great!
Anyone ever use this particular one???

I have had friends with similar problems. We ended up plumbing in some nice small manual ball valves and you just keep closing it bit by bit till you reach the desired speed. They had nice small knobs on them, not the ones with long handles. Theyve worked amazing and havent had any problems with it in over 3 years. We have also used the SD ones also and they work great as well. Its all a matter of how much you want to spend.

Oh yeah... We plumbed those manual valves on the open side of the dump valves.

I have all 1/2" valves and what I did since mine are in the cab, I ran 1/4" line out of the dumps and ran the line outside so it wouldnt be loud in the cab. Did a nice job of slowing it down as well.

these are what I used... the quality does kinda suck... BUT that may have something to do w/ them being exposed to snow and shit on my truck last year though... the screens ended up pretty corroded and clogged, so I ended up just drilling a small hole in each one and it was just right for speed for me and still kept it reasonably quiet.
When they were new, they kicked ass though, sounded like a aerosol spray can when i dumped, and was able to fine tune the speed so it layed out level instead of dumping the front really hard and waiting for the ass to fall... SO i guess if your running valves off the tank you'll be fine w/ them, but if you have your dumps under the truck and drive it in any kind of weather don't count on them lasting too long!
