i have a viair 380, can i mount it in the trunk over the carpet or will it get too hot and start a fire? if not how much space should i give it to be safe? please help

idd say about an 1" off the carpet at most. all it needs is some space for air to cool it off.

just mount it to a 1/4 piece of plate then mount is down to the floor

Just mount it to the floor. It won't get hot enough at the mounts to even come close to starting a fire. If it did, you would see people melting the rubber mounts left and right.
