ive had this noise from what sounds like pieces of my cat broken off inside ratting when im idling but now since its gotten colder it is about 50 times louder and i would really like to know what the hell it is so i can take care of itim thinking its the cati dont think it would be coming from the headersbut it deffinitally sounds like an exhaust thing and it has progressedlet me know if you have had something like this happen to yours i have a 99 s10 ext 2.2L

Well if it is coming from the cat, it's probably the honeycomb paper material inside broken loose. Take the cat off and break all of the guts out, then put it back on, it will have a cat, just with nothin in it

yes, its your cat, samething happened with mine, it beat the shit out of the inside of it.. yes it will throw a check engine light because the O2 sensor will detect the engine running rich. as far as the bolts go to the hardware store and get some new ones, just make sure to put them in once then after the engine heats up re torque them because the heat will loosen them.

get a new converter. the rear o2 sensor will sense the motor running rich and lean it out thus probably burning a valve or worse over time.
