Hey guys, I'm toying with the idea of putting an independent rear in my D50, Its converted to a toy 5 lug pre tacoma 2wd rear end now. What are my options as far as donor cars and how much modifying would I have to do as far as with, I'd like it if it were a couple inches narrower than the toy rear axle. What would work the best?

I'm not too sure, but I believe the older RX7 has a narrower rear, if not, there is also the Thunderbird and Nissan 300 ZX. Of course, you will have to do quite a bit of framework for any of these.

You should design your own
It should only cost about 5x's more than a sub frame from another car!
No, really if you want a specific size, it really isn't that hard to retro-fit parts from this-and-that to do what you need. That's how the Datsun (in my profile) is done. Custom axles aren't that expensive either.

the frame work isnt the problem, I think I can handle it, I'd rather do that than use an rx7 actually. I just didnt know how hard it would be to find some place local to have custom axles made and stuff. What rear parts are in the Datsun?

on that Datsun, do you get any bump steer in the gear since the tie rod end isn't mounted in line w. the upper and lower control arm mounting points. Maybe, I'm wrong, but wouldn't it cause the rear tires to toe-out?

ive got a rx7 rear with like ALL new parts(brakes, rotors,calipers,hubs,bearings..etc) with an echols universal mini rear frame clip i will sell for 2k obo....also have a wrecked 240 with good rear end ill sell the rear separate for cheap

nah ive got a setup i bought for my choptop toyota a few years ago...i doubt ill ever work on it again
