Looking for some axle housing dimensions

Hey guys,

Found your site while searching around trying to research for an upcoming project. I've found most of the info I'm looking for, the one piece I can't seem to find is how big the pumpkin is on a full floating 14 bolt axle. I know it's big, the gasket flange is about 14"x14" or so, but I really need to know how wide the pumpkin is to where the axle tubes meet it. I know I'm going to have to narrow it (quite a bit, actually, the WMS to WMS of the cab and chassis model would just barely fit under the body. What I need to figure out is now much axle tube I'm going to have left once I narrow it down, and how much I'm going to have to extend the fenders if necessary.

Also, from what I'm seeing on some aftermarket wheel sites, rim offset runs between 105mm and 115mm, which means that this 6" wide wheel is actually about 7.25" wide, and two of them bolted together is about 14.5". Does all that sound right to you?

Thanks in advance,
Teeleton

p.s. probably not going to be the last question I'll ask, but hopefully I can find everything else on the web or in the forum archives somewhere.

whacha building? Welcome to the site but need more info to give you the correct measurements. Not that I can give them to you but someone on here can. We have a dually wheel specialist on staff here!LOL He can tell you pretty much anything you need to know about rearends and what wheels will work. I would measure mine for ya but I can't get under it right now as it is in storage with no batteries in it.

Sweet!

The plan is to build a stretched s-10 blazer. DoD engine, 6L80, bagged to the rockers, dually wheels front and rear. Because of the height of the rear windows above the rockers, I can't really run any tires taller than about 26", and the best I can get for load rating in that size tire is about 1300lbs. Static weight out back is probably going to be in the neighborhood of 2000-2200 lbs, so 2600 lbs of load rating ain't gonna cut it.

As for the measurements, I'm trying to figure out how much I can move the frame rails inboard and still have room to mount the 4-link, watts, and bags around the pumpkin. I know the pumpkin is offset toward the driver's side, so I need the distance between the axle tubes, and the distance from the pinnion to one of the axle tubes. Does that make sense?

Anyone?

I'd hate to have to take a trip to my local wal-mart and crawl under the back of someone's dually with a tape measure and get myself shot. This is TX after all.

Thanks, That will get me started. I have a really good photo of the housing with the cover off, so using that as a reference, I should be able to calculate any other dimensions I need.
