I grabbed the Lincoln 135 for the first time today to see what i could do... They sure arent pretty.. What can I do better?? I ran it on the lowest setting (a) and speed was 3
try turning up the power setting also try a circular motion
yeah do the circular motion and maybe slow down
turn up the heat for sure, and slow down. Practice the circle technique.
The best way to get good at welding, is to start on thicker metal. 1/8" 3/16" or 1/4" will be good. 1/4" may be a stretch for what you're working with. But you're going to want to start with joint welds. Welding on a flat surface is pointless. You won't get much pentration, and your welds wont ever look that good. Cut up a bunch of scrap steel and start welding it together. Play with the speeds and heat settings until it gets right.
If the wire is drooping off or melting before it hits the metal its too hot or you need more wire feed. If the wire feels like its bouncing off the metal, its too fast, slow it down. Just play with it until it feels right. And always "push" the weld. It looks like you are pulling all of your welds.
I'm sure you know the "C" or "U" technique? Try doing circles as well. I found it easier when learning to do circles, then I moved into the U pattern.
Give that a shot and come back with some more pics. But mostly, its just going to take a few years of practice to really get it down.
if you open up the door where you put your wire in, there should be a table that tells your or reccomended settings for different size metals. i would turn it up for sure...and i like to use a back and fourth method but there are different ways to do it...ive heard of the back and fourth one, circles, and figure 8's.
^ I've never heard of doing figure 8s. I learned doing circles, and gradually moved into making Us or Cs.
I turned the heat up and tried the circle motion and its much easier.. .And yea I was pulling my weld.. Ill try pushing and I need some scrap metal... to practice on..
Hey i appreciate all your help.. is the metal turning colors because im not using gas?
