I don't buy rebuild kits, they're craptacular. I buy all my parts individually or have the machine shop order what I need if they are machining the block or crank or something. Since you may not know what you need until the shop gets them and they can machine the block and crank to the parts they order it is often better just to get some of them that way.

I don't get anything from Advance Auto or Autozone except little stuff like gaskets and stuff. You pay too much for a low quality product (although there arn't many other options for us usually).

rebuilding is nice but spending that much for so litlle hp doesnt make much sense. Instead of talking about alternative swaps, and assuming you are happy with the mazda motor, just find a jdm engine importer. You can get a 30-50k mile 2 liter for 5-800 bucks. If you rebuilt it, you'd spend that just at the machine shop before buying parts!

I have a jdm 2 liter in mine and it is super sweet. Bolts in because its the same exact engine, you just need to change some of the accessories, the distributor, and the intake, all of which SIMPLIFIES the swap.
