What gauge metal should you use for the filler plates in the floor?

16 guage works great. I brace all the trucks I do, just helps to keep the guessing out of it. nothing fance just some random angle iron, cross the cab, when I did my crew cab I also braced the B piller to keep the center from splitting appart.

I used 16 guage. You can still beat it into shape if need be with a decent hammer. I rolled the edge of mine over my floor, it was damn easy to weld.I hate butt welding thin metal.

Damn Seth, that looks almost exactly like mine. I did the oversized pcs. and bent them over with a hammer also. Came out real nice, and like you, I hate butt welding thin metal. Makes for a lot of hole fill work from the POPS LOL.

it doesnt matter what ga metal you use b/c its not what supports the cab. I use 18ga. What supports the cab is the 3/16 plate you use to go from the body mount on the frame to the cab to 'replate' them back together. the sheetmetal is just a filler. i wouldnt brace it, never had any problems at all. ext cab 3rd doors are about all i'd brace, b/c they can and will move on ya a little.
